Registration Age Group Details

Per FYAA policy, refunds will not be issued after the close of registration except in the case of injury or if a child has made a school team; amount of refund in those situations will be handled on a case by case situation. Refunds must be requested via email to admin@forestyouth.org.

Age cutoffs for all of our divisions are based on calendar year of birth and reset in the fall (fall-spring uses the same cutoffs) consistent with US Youth Soccer Guidelines. See the USYS age matrix for details. Players may “play up” a division with FYAA approval. “Playing down” is only permitted in the U6 and U8 divisions when developmentally appropriate for all parties involved and also requires FYAA approval. Requests to play outside of the divisions permitted in the registration system must be submitted via email to admin@forestyouth.org.

U6 Soccer

The U6 soccer season consists of 8 games. Teams typically do not practice during the week and instead hold a practice immediately before their game. Practices last for about 30 minutes and the game lasts for another 30 minutes. Games are typically held on Saturday mornings at Thomas Jefferson Elementary; sometimes games will be held on Sunday afternoon or on weeknights because of schedule logistics. Registration cost is $75 for the season and includes a jersey and soccer socks. Players must provide their own shinguards and shorts. Soccer cleats are recommended but optional. Games are played in a flexible style (see our U6 game formats) and use a size 3 soccer ball.

U8 Soccer

The U8 soccer season consists of 8 games. Teams typically hold one 45-60 minute practice during the week. Games consist of (2) 20-minute halves and are typically held on Saturday mornings at Thomas Jefferson Elementary; sometimes games will be held on Sunday afternoon or on weeknights because of schedule logistics. Registration cost is $75 for the season and includes a jersey and soccer socks. Players must provide their own shinguards and shorts. Soccer cleats are recommended but optional. Games are played in a flexible style (see our U8 game formats) and use a size 3 soccer ball.

U10 Soccer

We have two different options for U10 soccer - our traditional Recreation Program as well as an Academy Program offered in partnership with Central Virginia United Soccer.

RECREATION SOCCER PROGRAM

Our U10 soccer teams play in the Central Virginia Regional Soccer Association league (cvrsa.org). The season consists of 8 games. Teams typically practice 1-2 times during the week for 60-75 minutes. Games are typically held on Saturday mornings; sometimes games will be held on Sunday afternoons or weeknights because of schedule logistics. Registration cost is $85 for the season and includes a jersey and soccer socks. Players must provide their own shinguards and shorts. Soccer cleats are recommended but optional. Baseball or football cleats may be worn if the “toe cleat” is removed. Home games will be at New London Academy and away games will be at other CVRSA league member fields (e.g. Appomattox, Rustburg, Bedford). Games use a size 4 soccer ball. ACADEMY SOCCER PROGRAM

FYAA is once again offering a Forest-based soccer academy for U10 players (2015-2016 birthdays). Licensed coaches will run the training sessions and games.

Training during the season is designed for individual skill development and tactical team-centric coaching. This is a coed program, however, if demographics permit we will look to incorporate some girls-only training and games when feasible. Registration covers all program costs, a game jersey for new players, a practice jersey, and tournament registration fees. We are planning to attend a midseason tournament in October (Richmond) and an end of season tournament in Greensboro (November) and will mix in-house games on the weekends with scrimmages against other area academy programs when feasible. Our U19 soccer teams play in the Central Virginia Regional Soccer Association league (cvrsa.org).  This is only offered in the fall season and is dependent on area organizations having enough players to form teams. The season consists of 8 games. Teams typically practice 1-2 times during the week for 60-90 minutes. Games are typically held on Saturday afternoons; sometimes games will be held on Sunday afternoons or on weeknights because of schedule logistics. SPRING SEASON

New for spring 2024 we are attempting to launch a U19 soccer program to offer our older youth an opportunity to play. Exact details are TBD as it will depend on the number of players who register. Our basic plan is for all players to practice together in a pool training format. Games will be amongst the program participants and players will be broken up into teams for each game based on who is attending. These games could be smaller-sided (e.g. 7v7) or up to 11v11 depending on the number of participants. All registered players will receive 2 different colored jerseys to facilitate these in-house games. If we are able to find competition with other area teams, we will arrange that as well.
